| Dear Lisa, It was so good to see you at Creation's Grand Slam Star Trek Convention in Pasadena a few days ago. I wished we could have gotten together for a nice visit, but I see that you had your hands full running your new fan club. I'm so glad that you followed through on your plans to have a fan club for René Auberjonois. I first met René at a Star Trek Convention held in my home area of Spokane, Washington although Jonathan Frakes had been originally scheduled to appear, I was delighted to hear that René was appearing instead as a replacement, since René's character, "Odo," is my favorite on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I saw René again at a Vulkon Convention in Dallas Texas, where I had the pleasure of meeting his wife, Judith, who is absolutely delightful? Indeed, she seems to enjoy Star Trek conventions and meeting the fans as much as her husband, René. After meeting René in both Spokane and Dallas, I must say that I am very impressed with him, so that I am looking forward to becoming a member of his fan club. I'm also looking forward to seeing him and his wife, Judith, when I go on the Sea Trek Cruise this coming June. I'll tell you all about it, Lisa, when I get back. In the meantime, good luck on operating René's fan club, and my best wishes to René and Judith as well. Karen Brown (Thanks so much Karen for all the positive comments and for the generous donation to Oracle to ensure the high quality of each issue. Believe me, it isn't easy since postage is so high. I had underestimated mailing costs. Let's hope we continue to see René frequently around the country. To ensure that, we must write the convention companies and let them know who we want to see. Remember, there is another cast out there available to guest at conventions. That makes cast members from four incarnations of Trek vying for a place to spread their message. It is competitive and if a certain guest brings in more response then he is booked more often. Let's let them know who is in demand.) Lisa--From the Internet--This belongs in your domain not mine. Please let René know that my conscious decided that you should write about it before I do in Space Time Continuum. Sue Harke While watching CNN's coverage of the French VE Day parade et celebration surl'Arc de Triomphe a Paris ce matin...(ooops) about the Arc of Triumph in Paris this morning, there was an interesting fellow (an older gentleman) named Fernand Auberjonois providing commentary. I sat there thinking: this isn't the most common name...wonder if he's related to René? Boy is he ever! This is René's father! Auberjonois Sr. was a SWISS citizen who around 1938 wanted to be somewhere where he could do something to prevent the Fascists from destroying Europe...So he left for the United States; and ended up in US Army in intelligence... A very noble man indeed! He was apparently very important in his post...He mentioned though that he had trouble being sure where René was today: he indicated either Stockholm or Rotterdam, I believe he kidded that it was only appropriate in that fifty years ago for three and a half years, René didn't know where his father was (i.e. fighting in Ike's army...) I had assumed the Auberjonois family was French, hadn't y'all??? And turns out they were SWISS! (No wonder René's French accents are a little strange.) He talked about how special it was to be in the special US Army group of Francophiles called Les Claires since they were the only US Army group to enter Paris with the Free French.... and retake it from the Nazis.. But, needless to say, and back to the obdeep; it provides interesting background on René (and also; he's nearing 60? wow...), and we know he's in Europe this week. And more on the age thing; his father must be near 80+: may longevity run in the family! Dave Strum owner-ds9-talk (This is great! I knew that the Internet had some interesting info but I am overjoyed that Susan sent this to us. You will get this issue shortly after Father's Day. What a wonderful way to remember all of our fathers and what they did for us. I did get a short reply from René in-between his time away from home this summer. Yes, that's my Dad! No, I'm not that near 60! My dad is 86 and going strong.) (Artwork Courtesy of Janet
D'Airo) Dear Lisa, I had the pleasure of seeing René Auberjonois at a Vulkon Convention in Atlanta, Georgia during September 29th through October 1st of 1994. It was wonderful seeing him, and in the future I would like to write about the experience itself and his performance. Although the was late due to a filming schedule change, we all waited patiently for him. He apologized to everyone for his delay, but he put on a wonderful show and said he'd sign auto graphs all night if we wanted him to. What a great guy! Some celebrities will cancel shows when filming schedules change suddenly, but he didn't and that proves to me just how much he cares about his fans. Debra C Martin (Everyone, please feel free to send convention reports and pictures to Oracle and I will be more than happy to include them with all the other exciting things going on. If you don't have pictures, no problem, I have plenty to go around for all articles and reviews that show up. Remember this is your newsletter to honor René in and out of the guise of Odo, so if you have seen him in a play, movie, or television show, sent your thoughts along to the rest of us. If you want to get a letter to René and bypass the studio, send it to me and I will get it to him quicker. Thanks.)
