Climate Change
How You Can Make A Difference
Some people are still calling it "just a theory," but more and more evidence is accumulating every day that global climate patterns are changing as a result of rising levels of carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere, with devastating effects on ecosystems around the world. As global temperatures escalate, people in different regions are facing a variety of intensifying problems, including shrinking glaciers and polar ice, drought, flooding, and more powerful and deadly tropical storms.
Climate change is not just a concern of "ecology nuts." Droughts and floods interfere with agriculture and one of our most fundamental needs: the ability to feed ourselves. For some of us, all this means is an inconvenient increase in the price of our favorite fresh vegetables. But for millions of people around the world living in poverty, one lost harvest can mean widespread famine and lead to a rapid downward spiral of disease, social upheaval, and violence.
In the face of such a complex crisis, what can one person to do help? Knowledge is power, so the first step is to learn more. Below are links to some reports on climate change, its consequences for the environment, the economy, and the poor, and steps each of us can take to make a difference.
